The Before and After Vaults is the world’s first museum dedicated wholly to exploring the achievements of modern activism and the resistance endured.
We are located in the underground caves and former print rooms of a derelict newspaper building in the historic and artistic twin towns of Hastings – St Leonards, one hour south east of London by direct train from London Bridge Station.
Our venue was rescued and restored through a community movement that has brought empty and abandoned buildings back to life under the Hastings Commons.
The museum and the Hasting Commons both operate as not-for-profit social enterprises. Any surpluses made by the museum after cost-covering will be reinvested back into the museum in line with the Before and After Vaults’ objectives to sustainably and innovatively explore, document, amplify and inspire.
The Before and After Vaults is curated and co-produced by researchers, activists and artists that have participated in and sought to understand the most important, influential and challenging social and environmental campaigns and causes of the 21st Century.
